Carla's Heliconia Garden
Heliconias
Heliconia Sipi (my name for it) subgenus Heliconia section Farinosae native to: Costa Rica comment: I call this Sipí for lack of better information. At Wilson Gardens it is labeled tortuosa x latispatha hybrid, but there is no latispatha near the elevation where we found it, so I am not convinced yet. BACK TO TOP
An indeginous man came by as we were documenting this plant and said that Heliconias are called Sipí in his language, so we put that name on this mystery plant. All of the inflorescences were a bit past their prime, and many were well-eaten, too. The wide cleared swath on either side of the trail was full of these big heliconias.BACK TO TOP
