location: Costa Rica, Limon province, Turrialba, near the road between Grano de Oro and Llano del Quetzal
elevation: 1402 meters
climate: Atlantic, but I'm not familiar with the year-round rainfall distribution.
soil type: On top of rocky soil, under the leaf litter.
shade percent: 75 %
habitat notes: Primary or old secondary forest; lots of vegetation in general.
common at this location: Numerous plants together at this spot, but no other groups nearby.
associated species: tortuosa, Sipi (my name for it) - see webpage

MY SPECIMEN

date planted: 10-07-2004
number of rhizomes: 6
where planted: under guamo with psitts; near lower bella; in pot (now planted out under guamo).
comment: The potted rhizomes under the greenhouse roof sprouted and grew quickly. The others are growing but more slowly. Our elevation is similar to ignescens's native area, but we probably have a longer dry season.
